About Oak Park Mi
Located in Oakland County, Oak Park is one of Michigan’s many great cities. In the upcoming 2020 census, Oak Park was reported to have a total population of 29,560 residents. [4] Oak Park is a northern suburb of Metro Detroit that borders the city of Detroit to the south.
The first European Americans arrived in what is now known as Royal Oak Township in 1840, and the area remained relatively unpopulated for the next few decades. In 1914, during World War I, the municipality sold property to the Majestic Land Company for construction as the Oak Park subdivision, which was the first significant housing development built on the site. On May 3, 1927, the neighborhood was officially recognized as a village. The “excessively high cost of village governance” was the basis for two failed petition drives in 1931 and 1933, both of which took place during the Great Depression. After the end of World War II, on October 29, 1945, the village officially became a city.
Oak Park was dubbed “America’s Fastest Growing City” during the years 1950 and 1960 thanks to stimulus from the GI Bill, which let veterans purchase new homes, freeways to improve commuting, and planned developments. From a starting point of only 5,000, the population quickly grew to over 36,000 in just a few short years. Many of the city’s residents were either second- or third-generation descendants of Europeans who had settled in Detroit around the turn of the twentieth century. Among them were a sizable number of Orthodox Jewish Americans. During this time period, significant civic improvements included the building of an outdoor swimming pool and ice rink in Major Park.
